Intercession from Baselios Church, from the Heart of North America
|We are the only church in the heart of North America dedicated in the name of
St. Baselios Bawa.
Since there are many
people who have no access to a genuine Syriac Orthodox Church, Baselios Church is providing the opportunity for
you to register the names of you and/or your loved ones to be remembered and prayed for by the celebrant priest (or Bishop) during
our regularly scheduled services (including the church Day - the feast of St. Basil.
Please send email to email@example.com. This service is
at least 24 hours before the service.)
|Malankara World's focus
is on our families. We want to help our families. Since
family is a microcosm of church, it will have everything
that a church focused website will have. But there will
be more. We will cover issues that are important to
families. What are the things that keep our members
awake at night? Is that about their children? taking
care of old aged parents? Relationship with their
spouses? Breakdown of marriage? Health issues? Balancing
work, family and spiritual life? Managing stress?
We will use a combination of technology and harnessing
the resources of our people within our church to do
that. The website has currently over 8,000 articles with
more than 80% of them indexed in Google. A weekly
Malankara World Journal has published over 90 issues.
This has subscribers in all corners of the earth. To learn more, visit

Baselios Church at the 29th
Archdiocesan Family and Youth Conference
Twenty ninth Archdiocesan Family and Youth
Conference, held in Lancaster, Pennsylvania from July 15-18, created history
on many counts.
First, it was the first Family Conference
ever where a Patriarch attended the event. Our Holy Father HH Ignatius
Aphrem II arrived in time to attend the Public Meeting immediately following
the Heritage Procession, more colorful than ever. Patriarch also led
the Holy Qurbano on Saturday, July 18 and individually blessed every
participant after the service.
Second, it was attended by the largest crowd
ever. 640 people signed up. 625 actually attended from 45+ churches,
including several churches in Canada for the first time.
Baselios Church also had a prominent role to
play in the event. Dr. Jacob Mathew was a member of the publishing committee
of Malankara Deepam, the official souvenir, distributed at the event. For
the first time, our church had a full page complement page. Both Dr. Jacob
and Dr. Shila Mathew, co-founders of the church, participated in a panel
discussion organized by the Division of Pastoral Care Ministry of the
Archdiocese at the event dealing with Joint and Nuclear Family and their
impact on the Family. They also had written an article in the Souvenir.
It was a great event. We will publish some
pictures and more information on the Conference shortly.
Baselios Church at The Malankara Archdiocese Silver
July 22-25, 2010, Somerset, NJ
Baselios Church participated in a big
way in this year's convention. Teams from our church competed in the Cultural Competition
and in Choir Competition. We got a coveted spot in the historic
25-inmel qurbana. Our church members were the active members who
served many injured and sick as part of the Emergency Medical Team.
The official webmaster for the convention was our member and people
could not say enough about the website. And the list goes on and

over. And what a convention it was! It was historic in
every sense of the word. And Baselios Church, Cleveland
was an active participant.
Our church was the only
church from about half dozen churches that started in
the archdiocese that actively participated in every
aspect of the convention - from top leadership, to
sponsorship, to participating in both the choir and
cultural competitions. They were all capped by
participation in the historic 25-inmel qurbana. Dr.
Jacob Mathew was the altar assistant in altar #11. (This
was a very coveted spot in the qurbana as everyone from
the big churches, some with more than a quarter century
of experience serving in the altar wanted to get a role
out of the 25 available ones and were left standing at
the steps of the altar platform. To make it more
interesting (although I didn't know it at that time),
Dr. Mathew was given the left most altar in the row. Our
church gives big importance to the left side. The senior
most occupies this coveted spot and the junior most
occupies the right most slot. Most of the altars in
front were manned by Rev. Deacons who come higher in
spiritual hierarchy.) God indeed works in mysterious
ways. There is more to this story. ....
