Archdiocesan Gospel Convention and Lenten Retreat - 2018

WOW! In spite of the bad weather, we had a good turnout on Friday and packed to the brim crowd on Saturday. The program was well organized and the team received kudos from everyone. Next year it will be held in a larger auditorium.

Our church also played an important role in the convention. Dr. Jacob Mathew, VP of Baselios Church, served in the Core Organizing Team of the Convention and also was in charge of Publicity. Jacob is also the Regional 3 Coordinator of the St. Paul's Men's Fellowship, a region that includes Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Georgia, North Carolina and Florida. Theethose thirumeni praised Malankara World Journal during the convention and encouraged everyone to read it.

Baselios Church may be one of the smallest churches in the Archdiocese in terms of membership, but is a giant in terms of the service to the Archdiocese. Reminds me of the bible verse,

But you, Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
Are not the least among the rulers of Judah;
For out of you shall come a Ruler
Who will shepherd My people Israel.
Matthew 2:6; Micah 5:2

Just like Bethlehem, an unimportant town in Judea, was selected for the birth of the son of God, Baselios Church, a small church in the archdiocese, is often called to perform big tasks for the Archdiocese.

Baselios Church at the 31st Archdiocesan Family and Youth Conference

Dr. Jacob Mathew from Baselios Church was elected as a Regional Coordinator of the St. Paul's Men's Fellowship. Both Dr. Shila Mathew and Dr. Jacob Mathew of our church were members of the panel discussion organized by the Division of Pastoral Care Ministry of the Archdiocese on the topic "Addiction." Malankara World also published a Special Section on Addiction to highlight the importance of this epidemic facing the USA and the World.

Baselios Church at the 30th Archdiocesan Family and Youth Conference

During the Family Conference Dr. Jacob Mathew and Family from Baselios Church was recognized by the Archdiocese for the "sincere and outstanding service to the Holy Church through the digital library Malankara World." The award was presented to Dr. Jacob Mathew by His Beatitude and the Ponnada was presented by Archbishop Mor Titus Yeldho of the Malankara Archdiocese of the Syriac Orthodox Church in North America.

Dr. Jacob Mathew was a member of the panel organized by the Division of Pastoral Care Ministry of the Archdiocese at the event dealing with Marriage and Family.

Baselios Church at the 29th Archdiocesan Family and Youth Conference

First, it was the first Family Conference ever where a Patriarch attended the event. Our Holy Father HH Ignatius Aphrem II arrived in time to attend the Public Meeting immediately following the  Heritage Procession, more colorful than ever. Patriarch also led the Holy Qurbano on Saturday, July 18 and individually blessed every participant after the service.

Second, it was attended by the largest crowd ever. 640 people signed up. 625 actually attended from 45+ churches, including several churches in Canada for the first time.

Baselios Church also had a prominent role to play in the event. Dr. Jacob Mathew was a member of the publishing committee of Malankara Deepam, the official souvenir, distributed at the event. For the first time, our church had a full page complement page. Both Dr. Jacob and Dr. Shila Mathew, co-founders of the church, participated in a panel discussion organized by the Division of Pastoral Care Ministry of the Archdiocese at the event dealing with Joint and Nuclear Family and their impact on the Family. They also had written an article in the Souvenir. Dr. Shila Mathew is a member of the Archdiocesan Pastoral Care Ministry.

Baselios Church at The Malankara Archdiocese Silver Jubilee Convention

Baselios Church participated in a big way in this year's convention. Teams from our church competed in the Cultural Competition and in Choir Competition. We got a coveted spot in the historic 25-inmel qurbana. Our church members were the active members who served many injured and sick as part of the Emergency Medical Team. The official webmaster for the convention was our member and people could not say enough about the website. And the list goes on and on...
